Feb 19, 2024 · In monotheistic religions such as Christianity, God is understood as the creator and sustainer of the universe, possessing attributes such as omnipotence, omniscience, and omnibenevolence. God is seen as the source of moral authority and the ultimate object of worship and devotion.
In Christianity, God is believed to be the eternal, supreme being who created and preserves all things. [5] Most Christians believe in a monotheistic, trinitarian conception of God, which is both transcendent (wholly independent of, and removed from, the material universe) and immanent (involved in the material universe). Jan 4, 2022 · Who is God? - His Nature. We know certain things to be true of God for one reason: in His mercy He has condescended to reveal some of His qualities to us. God is spirit, by nature intangible ( John 4:24 ). God is One, but He exists as three Persons—God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit ( Matthew 3:16-17 ).
Most of the Christian world defines God (Elohim) as a closed group of three beings (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). The Bible, however, does not teach that the Holy Spirit is an individual like the Father and Son. Instead, it is currently composed of two beings who intend to add countless converted humans to the family.
- God is our creator. This is where the story begins. We read in Genesis, the first book of the Bible, that God created everything—light, earth, water, air, plants, animals, and humans.
- God is three in one—a Trinity. What exactly is the relationship between God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit? Defining the Trinity is not easy.
- God is unchanging. We live in a world where everything changes, and where the pace of change seems to quicken all the time. This causes a lot of stress and anxiety as people try to maintain a sense of stability in the middle of all the change.
- God is love. Above everything else, God is love. This truth is made clear all through the Bible by God’s actions—including sending Jesus, God’s only son, to earth to live and die, opening the door for us to be reconciled to God.
Within the Christian perception and experience of God, characteristic features stand out: (1) the personality of God, (2) God as the Creator, (3) God as the Lord of history, and (4) God as Judge. (1) God, as person, is the “I am who I am” designated in Exodus 3:14.
