May 22, 2023 · Veteran director Leon Ichaso, who directed TV episodes from “Miami Vice” to “Queen of the South,” and numerous features, died suddenly of a “massive heart attack,” his sister said Monday.
In “El Cantante” (2006), Ichaso told the story of salsa singer Héctor Lavoe. Singer Marc Anthony portrayed Lavoe with Jennifer Lopez (Anthony’s wife at the time) as Lavoe’s wife. In Ichaso’s movies, “you can almost smell the rooms the actors are in,” Anthony told The New York Times in 2007.
