Mark joined the cast of Neighbours in the show's '80s heyday, taking on the role of Joe Mangel in 1988. Joe was the son of the notoriously stern Mrs Mangel (played by the late Vivean Gray), but was far more relaxed and fun-loving than his strict mum, often sparking tension between the two. Joe's memorable storylines included facing up to his responsibilities as a dad to his son Toby and tragically losing his wife Kerry Bishop when she was shot by a stray bullet while protesting against duck hunters. Joe re-married after finding love with Melanie Pearson (although they later divorced) and he also had a touching bond with Neighbours' most famous pet dog Bouncer. Mark left Neighboursin 1991 to pursue other challenges but returned as a guest in 2005 when the show celebrated its 20th anniversary. Joe's return storyline saw him reunite with adopted daughter Sky and briefly find love with Lyn Scully.

Mark is married to Cath Farr and the pair have two grown-up sons, Angus and Jasper. Mark and Cath have collaborated on a number of projects over the years, with Cath producing and directing many of his shows.

Prior to Neighbours, Mark starred on The Flying Doctorsas Ron Miller, a role which earned him the Best Actor title from the Australian Television Society. Post-Neighbours, Mark relocated to the UK in 1992 and co-hosted Channel 4's The Big Breakfast for two years. Away from the TV world, Mark has enjoyed dozens of roles on the stage, including at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the West End. He even won an Olivier Award in 2000 for his one-man show Defending the Caveman. Mark was also a regular contributor on Channel 5's The Wright Stuff and has some reality TV experience too, competing on Celebrity MasterChef.

Mark's professional partner on Dancing on Ice will be Brianne Delcourt, who's been part of the show since series five. Asked recently about taking on the challenge, Mark commented: "My biggest fear, honestly, is the safety of my partner. I’m not fearful of it but I’m concerned that I look after my skate partner and don’t hurt them. "I might have to lift but the women have to be lifted and I think being lifted is scarier than lifting. Saying that, I won’t be lifting until I’m totally sure I won’t drop anyone!" On what excites him the most about the show, Mark replied: "Competition and getting good at this! I was a roller skater but this is a totally different gig. It involves a bit of elegance. "I’ve always watched ice dancing and always been a fan of it, when I watch the Winter Olympics. I was there when Torvill and Dean did their thing and I felt the excitement of that even though I wasn’t into ice skating or anything. So, the thrill of the competition and the fun! I’m here for a l...
