Since the red room is a stomach it’s waiting to ‘digest’ the characters on its own time, when it feels it’s ready. It could explain why the door opens for olivia (at this point she is beyond help and she and abigail die that night), and the red room opens later in the show with all the siblings inside as it plans on killing them.
