Background
Till used to be a rookie police officer at the Detroit Police Department before the tragedy.She ran support on a firebug case once. A guy was burning down laundromats with ethanol. He was never caught and froze with the world. She remembered ethanol as, "That sweet smell, almost rotten. Sticks with you." Till used to abuse the Tailies during her patrols in the Tail, by banging her nightstick on their bunks.
Till joins Layton's crew on the Pirate Train along with Bennett Knox, Alexandra Cavill, Josie Wellstead and the captive Miss Audrey and Sykes. Along with everyone else, she is devastated by the apparent death of Melanie Cavillbut excited by the data that she left behind showing warming areas of the Earth.
Bess is primarily tough and no-nonsense but is also caring. She originally thought that Layton was a piece of scum before becoming his ally and joining the revolution.
She is in a close, complex romantic relationship with Jinju Seong. They meet in secret often, however, given Till is a Breakman and from Third, whilst Jinju is a member of second and, to some extent, Snowpiercer's management.
