Oct 26, 2016 · Lenoir City Council voted Monday to make the position of mayor full time Jan. 1. The resolution for the change passed unanimously without discussion at the end of Monday’s regular meeting. The item, simply listed as a numbered resolution, was added to council’s agenda just before the meeting began.

The council-manager form is the most popular structure of government in the United States among municipalities with populations of 2,500 or more. Under this form, residents elect a governing body, the council, to adopt legislation and set policy.

Lenoir City Council unanimously passed during Monday’s regular meeting the second and final reading of an ordinance to proceed with a referendum to increase the local sales tax by 0.75%.
