In 1352 the duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin was again divided: from Schwerin grew a new line of dukes, called Mecklenburg-Stargard. In 1436 the Werle line, and in 1471 the Stargard line were annexed to Mecklenburg-Schwerin, reuniting all the lands of Mecklenburg.

Magnus II, Albert VIII and Balthasar, as sons of Henry VII, ruled jointly. Balthasar was also Bishop of Schwerin in 1479-1482, and ruled with his nephews Albert IX and Henry VIII from 1503. In 1520 a new division was made: Henry kept Schwerin and Albert Güstrow.
