May 6, 2024 · Jimmy Kimmel is set to return as host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire this summer as ABC celebrates the 25th anniversary of the landmark game show. Originally hosted by Regis Philbin, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire first premiered on American television 25 years ago last month.
Vieira became the first host of the American syndicated version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire on September 16, 2002; prior to that, American audiences had known it as a primetime show on ABC hosted by Regis Philbin.
ABC has revived Millionaire twice before, first for a 10th-anniversary run in 2009 and then again in 2020 with Kimmel as host. Additionally, a syndicated version of the show aired from 2001 to 2019.
