- The Spanish princess was born Catalina de Aragón on December 16, 1485 in the Archiepiscopal Palace of Alcalá de Henares close to Madrid, Spain. She was the youngest daughter of Queen and King Fernando II de Aragón. Following her birth, Catherine was betrothed to Arthur, Prince of Wales, and son of King Henry VII of the Tudor dynasty.
