Blandford's political career in the House of Commons began with his election for Chippenham in 1818. He did not stand in the election of 1820, but returned to the Commons in 1826 for his family's seat of Woodstock. He opposed Catholic emancipation in 1829, and the Maynooth grant in 1845. He also opposed the repeal of the Corn Laws.
