Aug 23, 2022 · 1. Prayer is ordinarily directed to the Father. Jesus teaches us to pray to the Father. When his disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray, this is how he instructed them, “When you pray, say: ‘Father…’”. ( Luke 11:1-2 ). In prayer, we are to address God the Father.
Jesus did say that if we pray "in his name" then we will be given what we pray for. But that's not the same as praying To Jesus. Matt 6:9, 1 Pet 1:17, Eph 3:14 all say to pray to the Father. If Jesus happens to be God, then what is the advantage of praying to Jesus (an english translation of his name), anyway, and not the Father?

I think this is widely misunderstood, so here’s my take on it. People who pray to Mary and the Saintsare not praying to them in worship, but as intercessors. Much like you ask friends to pray for you and with you, people pray to Mary and the Saints in the same way. It’s like reaching out to your most faithful and prayerful friend to ask for prayer.

That is the Bible’s trinitarian prayer structure.” We only can come to God in prayer pleading for grace, because we have a high priest, which is why we pray in Jesus’ name.
This is why we pray to God through Jesus Christ because we are not worthy of talking directly to God. Instead, we talk to God through Jesus, our high priest. As Beloved Women put it, we cannot just go and talk to the president of a country unless invited; the same is true with God, so Jesus invited us to do so.

Dec 18, 2012 · The theological reason is that prayer is talking to God. And if Jesus is, as the Scriptures present him, the one person who is truly God and truly human—-the second person of the Trinity now incarnate—-then how could praying to this Jesus be wrong in principle?
