New York City constantly surprises us—in good and bad ways. We're often cyncial, but every once in a while NYC gives us a good shake, whether it's something we see on the street or overhear on the train. One thing is for sure: it's never boring here.
We all may want to live the good life, but let's be real—most of us will never reach pizza rat level. The little rascal not only stole a slice, but also our hearts and minds in 2015, forever engraining himself in our collective memory as an iconic New Yorker.
NYC is the best city in the world but it can be draining, from the rough commutes to the sky-high prices. We won't stop loving the city, but some days we certainly don't like it. The song lyric from LCD Soundsystem is spot on.
Sometimes it feels like cash just falls out of our pockets. It turns out that living in the World's Greatest City comes with a hefty price tag.
The sheer amount of cultures to be found in NYC is why we love it here. There's always someone to meet, something to learn or new food to try, and beauty to find along the way.
Ludacris said it the best—just keep moving. And don't stop in the middle of the sidewalk or we willmove aggressively around you.
Taken from Bo Burnham's "Welcome to the Internet," this line also aptly describes NYC with all of its offerings and opportunities. Everything under the sun is here and constantly vying for our attention, from stores selling all sorts of things to advertisements everywhere we look. Like the Netflix special, it's both amazing and a little bit dark.

- The sense of opportunity. Alicia Keys famously crooned about New York City as the "concrete jungle where dreams are made of," joining a long line of artists and entrepreneurs who see the city as a place where ordinary people can turn their fantasies into reality.
- The incredible diversity. Speaking of which, ever since Ellis Island served as the gateway to America, this city has welcomed immigrants from around the world.
- The unrivaled restaurants and bars. New Yorkers recognize that when it comes to great places to eat and drink, we're spoiled for choice. "I love living in New York City because there is no excuse to be bored," Meaghan Dorman, bartender and partner at the Raines Law Room and Dear Irving, told TPG.
- The appreciation for arts and culture. There are hundreds of museums, theaters, music halls and other cultural institutions in New York City, from giants like the Metropolitan Museum of Art to indie black-box theaters and performance venues.
- Everyone wants to tap this. Once again, New York City’s tap water received first-place honors at the annual statewide taste test, held at the New York State Fair this August.
- You can do these activities 24/7. Devour a plate of pierogi at Veselka. Rock-climb at Rock Health & Fitness Club. Lazily check out hotties at Cafeteria.
- Every year, fun spots keep popping up on our waterfronts. Transforming from an industrial wasteland to a jewel box of fabulous green spaces, the upgraded NYC waterfront has been years in the making, but it really went into overdrive this year with the opening of three major parks.
- The East Village is now a mecca for lovers of Chinese cuisine. With Little Tong Noodle Shop, Szechuan Mountain House, Hunan Slurp, Málà Project and other new spots, the Chinese-food scene in the East Village is off the charts right now.
