The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The initial model was available in a coupé body style, with a convertible body style added soon after.
The company designs and builds upon numerous parts of the original car, such as tuning the car's engine, lowering the car, making a new body with more features, and installing racing tires. The first car from Hamann Motorsport was the BMW M3 (E30), producing 348 PS (256 kW) from a 2.3L R4 engine (with a turbocharger). The car accelerated from 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 170 mph (273 km/h).
