The first Dodge Dart was originally offered in 1960 as a smaller version of the large sedans from Plymouth – the low priced car that Dodge dealers offered the prior year. Basically, Dodge dealers had offered both Dodge and Plymouth models since 1930, but a corporate restructuring meant that Plymouth was becoming a separate brand.
