The Spirit is a fictional masked crimefighter appearing in American comic books. Created by cartoonist Will Eisner, he first appeared as the main feature of a tabloid -sized comic book insert distributed in the Sunday edition of Register and Tribune Syndicate newspapers.
Released as Will Eisner's The Spirit Archives, the series also features introductions from eminent comic creators and critics. The archives are now complete and run for 26 volumes. It also features The Spirit daily newspaper strips and any Spirit material published since the initial 1940-1952 run.
