Zbigniew Hubert Cybulski (Polish pronunciation: [ˈzbiɡɲɛf tsɨˈbulskʲi]; 3 November 1927 – 8 January 1967) was a Polish film and theatre actor, one of the best-known and most popular personalities of the post-World War II history of Poland.
Actor. Born on the 3rd of November 1927 in Kniaże near Stanisławów, died tragically on the 8th of January 1967 in Wrocław. In 1947, he enrolled at the Kraków University of Economics and at the department of Journalism at the School of Social Sciences.
Zbigniew Cybulski. Actor: Ashes and Diamonds. Won international fame with the leading role of Maciek Chelmicki in Andrzej Wajda's Ashes and Diamonds (1958). He created a character which was imitated not only in Poland; often compared with James Dean.

But Cybulski arrived most fully formed in Wajda’s masterpiece Ashes and Diamonds (1958). Set in 1945, the story concerns the immediate chaos of the postwar situation through the experience of one young man, Maciek, a Home Army veteran who’s been asked to assassinate an incoming commissar.
