Zedekiah. In the Old Testament, the last king of Judah ( 2 Kgs. 24:17–20; 25:2–7 ). Zedekiah imprisoned the prophet Jeremiah ( Jer. 32:1–5 ), and Jeremiah prophesied Zedekiah’s captivity ( Jer. 34:2–8, 21 ). Lehi and his family lived in Jerusalem during the first year of the reign of Zedekiah ( 1 Ne. 1:4 ).
Here Zedekiah is portrayed as a man who is indecisive, torn asunder by conflicting emotions, recognizing Jeremiah as a true prophet but unable to act in faith on his words. Unable to choose the good by faith he acts perfidiously as seen in Jeremiah 34 and Ezekiel 17.

Zedekiah probably acts to return Jeremiah to the relatively posh digs of the royal guards because he too realizes that Jeremiah is a prophet. He does not want to lose his crystal ball. Evidently, the king holds an audience with Jeremiah just after his release from the pit (verse 14).
