Brett P. Giroir (pronounced jir-WAH) (born November 4, 1960) is an American pediatrician. He was formerly the U.S. assistant secretary for health, a four-star admiral in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and an acting Food and Drug Administration commissioner.
Brett Giroir is a pediatric critical care specialist and physician-scientist who leads several national public health initiatives, including the opioid crisis and the HIV epidemic. He was appointed Acting FDA Commissioner in November 2019 and has served as HHS Assistant Secretary for Health since 2018.
