"Genesis" is the pilot episode of Nash Bridges' first season. The episode premiered on March 29, 1996.

In a sting operation, Inspector Nash Bridges exchanges phony money with thief Ferguson for a $2 million load of stolen computer chips, but Ferguson evades Nash.

Nash's former partner, Joe Dominguez (now retired and a private investigator) accompanies Nash and his new young partner, Evan Cortez, to question a snitch. After stopping a runaway car with his Barracuda, Nash forces snitch Joy to give them the name of the financier of the computer chip heist.

Nash is in the final stage of his divorce with Kelly, his second wife. His 16 year old daughter Cassidy is his child with his first wife Lisa, who is still angry with him. Nash still carries a torch for Kelly.

Nash and Joe question crooked financier Neil Wojak, and they find Lisa (Nash's first ex-wife) at the mansion making catering arrangements with the crime boss. Nash steals Wojak's diary, and Wojak sends his head thug Alex Raab to get the diary back. Raab beats up Nash, but Nash gets away. Previously, Wojak and Raab have just killed the original thief Ferguson.

At a surveillance stakeout, Nash and Joe discover Wojak's foreign connection - a Chinese Triad member trying to purchase the stolen chips for sale to the Chinese military. At a Chinese restaurant mentioned in Wojak's diary, Nash and Joe run into Raab. In the ensuing shoot-out, Raab shoots Joe and seriously wounds him.

As the deal goes down with Raab and the Chinese Triad underboss, Nash intercedes and breaks up the deal. Nash beats up Raab and later tells Wojak that the Chinese Triad is mad at Wojak for losing the money and the computer chips. Nash visits the unconscious Joe in the hospital.
