    • 1. two English architects. Sir George Gilbert (1811–78) designed the Albert Memorial in London (1863–72), which exemplifies the Gothic style that he favoured. His grandson Sir Giles Gilbert (1880–1960) is best known for the Gothic Anglican cathedral in Liverpool (begun in 1904, completed in 1978).
