Jun 9, 2018 · Sarah Maine was born in England and emigrated to Canada with her family at the age of ten. A small northern Ontario community was home for the next two years before the family moved south, and Sarah went to high school in Toronto.
The story is set in Argyll, Scotland and Newfoundland and stretches over two generations, from the war years to the 1980s. It is told by Archie Maxwell, troubled war hero and a man in hiding, searching for redemption, and by Eva Bayne, a child with whom he develops an unlikely friendship.
