Sara's (Tiba Tossijn) estranged father (Derek de Lint) is a chess champion, so she decides to take up chess as well. While learning, she retreats into an imaginary world where a headstrong White Queen (Monique van de Ven), bored with her lackadaisical husband, the White King (Jack Wouterse), teaches Sara chess using her fantastical friends as living pieces.
