- 1:19UAW accuses Trump, Musk of trying to intimidate workersReuters VideosSTORY: :: @realDonaldTrump via "X" DONALD TRUMP": “You – you’re the greatest cutter…" :: File A conversation between Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has irked the United Auto Workers Union, which said on Tuesday it has filed complaints with the National Labor Relations Board against the two men. The Union is accusing Trump and Musk of attempts to threaten and intimidate auto workers. The UAW seized upon remarks Trump made on Monday during a two-hour conversation with Musk that was broadcast on social media platform X. TRUMP: "You're the greatest cutter. I mean, I look at what you do. You walk in, you just say: 'You want to quit?' They go on strike - I won't mention the name of the company - but they go on strike. And you say: 'That's okay, you're all gone.'" Musk chuckled but did not respond to Trump's comments. Under federal law, workers cannot be fired for going on strike, and threatening to do so is illegal under the National Labor Relations Act, the UAW said in a statement. :: Margo Martin via X It is unclear whether the NLRB would take action against Trump for complimenting Musk’s ability to cut costs while saying he wouldn’t tolerate a strike. The UAW is rallying behind Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, and is encouraging its nearly 400,000 workers to vote for her over Trump.20 hours ago

- 2:26Rambling Trump, Musk interview marred by tech issuesReuters VideosSTORY: Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's two-hour interview with billionaire Elon Musk on X got off to a delayed start after more than half an hour of technical problems on Monday (August 13). Musk blamed the delays on a DDoS or distributed denial-of-service attack, where a server is flooded with traffic to shut it down, though his claims could not be verified. The friendly talk with Trump offered the candidate an unfiltered venue to air his usual mix of grievances, personal attacks and overstated or false claims. That included attacking Democrat candidate Kamala Harris, whose 11th-hour entry into the race as president Joe Biden stepped aside has galvanized her party and boosted Democratic fundraising. “....say what you want. This was the coup. This was a coup of a president of the United States. He didn't want to leave. And they said, we can do it the nice way. Oh, we can do it the hard way.” Musk, who backed Democratic President Joe Biden in 2020, has supported Trump since his attempted assassination. Trump praised Musk's willingness to fire workers demanding better conditions and Musk praised Trump for bravery after the attempt on his life last month. “So, I think it's a massive, I think we're in massive trouble, frankly, with a Kamala administration. And that's my honest opinion. And I think really it's essential that you win for the good of the country of this election. And, I mean, that's understating my opinion.” A counter on X showed as many as 1.3 million people listened to the interview at some points. Musk let Trump lead the conversation and did not challenge Trump's statements including the false claim that bacon prices had risen four or five times or that other countries were sending criminals from their prisons across the southern U.S. border. Studies show immigrants, including those in the U.S. illegally, do not commit crimes at a higher rate than native-born Americans. And while Trump is a longstanding critic of electric vehicles, on Monday he described the electric cars made by Tesla as "incredible." Trump had been leading Biden in many polls of battleground states likely to be critical to the outcome of the Nov. 5 election, but he is now trailing Harris in some of the same states. Musk has started an external super PAC spending group to support Trump's campaign. It is now under investigation in Michigan for possible violations of state laws on gathering voter information.1 day ago

- 1:17FBI investigating after Trump campaign says it was hacked by IranReuters VideosSTORY: The FBI said Monday it was investigating claims by Donald Trump's presidential campaign that it was hacked by Iran. The former president said on Saturday that Microsoft had informed his campaign that Iran had hacked one of its websites. Trump said Iran was "only able to get publicly available information." His campaign has pointed to a report on Friday by Microsoft researchers indicating that Iranian government-linked hackers tried breaking into the account of a "high-ranking official" on a US presidential campaign in June. The report added that the hackers took over an account belonging to a former political adviser and then used it to target the official. It did not give further details as to the targets' identities. The Washington Post also reported on Monday that the FBI was investigating an alleged hack targeting advisers to the campaign of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. The newspaper, citing sources, said the FBI began the investigation in June, and suspected that Iran was behind the attempts to steal data. The Harris campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Harris became the Democratic presidential nominee after Biden withdrew his bid last month. The Iranian government has denied that it hacked the Trump campaign.2 days ago
- 0:56Trump says he'll return to Butler where he was shot in the earReuters VideosSTORY: :: August 12, 2024 :: @REALDONALDTRUMP VIA “X” :: Trump says he'll return to Butler, where he was shot, in an audio interview with Elon Musk on X :: Voice of Donald Trump “Well, I was going to say how good the numbers were. By the way, we're going back to Butler and we're going to come back in October. We're all set up and the people are fantastic in Butler. It's a big, it's a great area. These are incredible people like the three that in the case of Corey killed and the other two, the families there, I got to know them a little bit and the families are great, but we're going back to Butler” Musk began the event at 8:42 p.m. on Monday (August 12), more than 40 minutes after the scheduled start time. He blamed the difficulties on a distributed denial-of-service attack, a type of cyber attack in which a server or network is flooded with traffic in an attempt to shut it down, though his claim was not confirmed. More than 1 million people were listening as the conversation started, according to a counter on X. Trump sounded at times as if he was speaking with a lisp, many listeners on X pointed out. Some said it made him sound like a cartoon, others suggested it could be due to audio compression issues.2 days ago
