I’m sure most, if not all of us, at one time or another have attended an art or other exhibit at a museum or art gallery that features photographs in an exhibitionartistic or educational.

    • Find a place to show off your work. Although it sounds kind of daunting, this step is easier than it sounds (seriously). Local coffee shops, libraries, and small businesses are ideal.
    • Select a theme. Picking your best photos is a must when planning your exhibit. This is your time to show everyone what you've got. Be sure to have someone else review your choices, as they might like something else than what you picked.
    • Print and frame your photos. When it came to printing my photos, I opted to send them to a lab. I chose Nations Photo Lab to print my exhibit photos as I have always gone to them for any kind of printing.
    • Install your framed photos. Now that you found a place to display your work, picked your best images, and printed them, now what? It’s time to set up your first exhibit!

    • Create a viable budget. Yes, you’re a creative visionary who’s driven by the call of the Muses. Nevertheless, as mundane as it may sound, staging a successful photography exhibit requires careful planning and a viable budget.
    • Decide whether to exhibit solo or as part of a group. Whether exhibiting solo or exhibiting as part of a group, both will have their pros and cons. If you fly solo, then the show will focus solely on your work.
    • Choose a theme. Exhibiting a random collection of photographs won’t have the same coherence and impact as a carefully curated body of work unified by a theme.
    • Rent the space. While you can book a traditional gallery or art space for your exhibition, you can also book non-traditional spaces in gentrified parts of your city, such as hip bars, restaurants, coffee shops, tea rooms, barber shops, and boutiques.
  3. Oct 14, 2023 · This was to make sure that the images formed a cohesive group. Rather than crowd around a screen, we made the final selection by reviewing 6” x 4” prints. We also used the prints to decide on a detailed hanging plan for the exhibition. Once we had the hanging plan, I got full size prints made (each was around 16” x 12”).
