Pileggi was born in Portland, Oregon, the son of Maxine, a homemaker, and Vito Pileggi, a defense contractor. [2] Pileggi's family moved frequently because of his father's occupation, and Pileggi lived in Oregon, California, and Texas before spending most of his adolescence in Turkey. [3]
There is a dedication: "In Loving Memory of Vito J. Pileggi," father of Mitch Pileggi. Vito died in the same month the first X-Files episode Pilot (1993) aired.
