The Georgetown Loop Railroad was one of Colorado’s first visitor attractions. Completed in 1884, this spectacular stretch of three-foot narrow gauge railroad was considered an engineering marvel for its time.
With seven trains a day running out of Denver at the height of its popularity, the Georgetown Loop was Colorado’s scenic “must see.” Guidebooks, pamphlets and postcards helped send the images of the steep canyons and mountain peaks accessible by train across the nation.

The Georgetown Loop Railroad is a 3 ft (914 mm) narrow gauge United States heritage railroad located in the Rocky Mountains in Clear Creek County, adjacent to Interstate 70 in Colorado. This tourist train runs between the communities of Georgetown and Silver Plume, a distance of 2 miles (3.2 km).
The Georgetown Loop Scenic Train runs every day from May through mid-October and most days through early January. The train ride is 1 hour and 15 minutes long. Located only 45 miles from Denver and is nestled high in the rocky mountains.
