Yang Jiayu (Chinese: 杨家玉; born 18 February 1996) [1] is a Chinese race walker and Olympic champion. She specialises in the women's 10 kilometres and 20 kilometres race walk events, and she holds the world record in the latter.
Feb 18, 1996 · Milestones. Made her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 where she finished 12th in the 20km race walk. 2017 World Championships 20km race walk gold medallist, becoming the youngest female Chinese athlete to win a world title in the 20km or 50km race walk (21 years and 176 days).
Aug 1, 2024 · World record holder Yang Jiayu claimed the first athletics gold medal for China at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris in the women’s 20 km walking race. Jiayu broke away after the 5 km mark and opened up a 12 seconds lead over the chasing pack of eight athletes with 13 km to go.
Aug 1, 2024 · Yang finished the first kilometer in 4:22 after quickly establishing herself as the race leader. She remained in that position while completing the first 10 kilometers in 43:06. She extended her lead over Perez to 30 seconds after 15 kilometers.
Aug 1, 2024 · The People's Republic of China's world record holder, Yang Jiayu, brought her season's best to the Olympic stage, completing the 20km race walking course in 1:25:54 to take the second athletics gold of Paris 2024. This was a big improvement on her 12th-place finish at Tokyo 2020, as she finished 25 seconds before the rest of the field.
