Piedmont is a small city located in Alameda County, California, United States, enclaved by the city of Oakland. Its residential population was 11,270 at the 2020 census. The name comes from the region of Piedmont in Italy, and it means 'foothill'. Piedmont was incorporated in 1907, and was developed significantly in the 1920s and 1930s.

The founding of Piedmont, California In 1820, today's Piedmont was called “Rancho San Antonio” and remained there until 1842 when Don Peralta divided his ranch between his four sons. The site that Piedmont now occupies was included in the portions belonging to Jose Domingo and Viciente Peralta and stayed that way until squatters took over.
