Aug 20, 2023 · BATAVIA – Former Kane County Sheriff Kenneth Ramsey died Saturday. Aug. 19, according to Coroner Rob Russell. Ramsey was found dead in his home, Russell said. Ramsey, 75, was a police officer in Batavia and then was sheriff from 1994 to 2006, according to a 2014 interview with the Kane County Chronicle.

Ramsey, a lifelong law man and most recently a Deacon at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Batavia, was 75. Ramsey started out his career as an officer for the Batavia Police Department in the early ’70s.

He was born on March 24, 1948, in Aurora, to Corrine (née Weber) Murtaugh and Theodore Ramsey and grew up in the Batavia Highlands in a section of the Geneva School District.
