As Russia intensifies missile attacks on Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky overhauls his government, aiming to improve ties with the West and increase weapons production.

At least seven people were killed in Lviv, Ukraine, in a Russian strike overnight. It follows another attack that killed dozens of people on Tuesday. Warning: This story contains disturbing images.

Ukrainian officials confirmed Tuesday that Russian airstrikes destroyed a military academy in the eastern town of Poltava, killing more than 50 people. It appears to be one of the deadliest strikes carried out by Russia since it began its invasion over two years ago. CBS News foreign correspondent Ian Lee has the latest.

Russia launched hundreds of missiles and drones at Ukraine overnight. At least 51 people were killed when a military school in Poltava was struck. Ian Lee has the details.

Ukrainian officials say two ballistic missiles struck a military academy and a nearby hospital, killing dozens and wounding more than 200, in one of the deadliest attacks in the war.

Two ballistic missiles struck the central city of Poltava on Tuesday (September 3), hitting a hospital, an educational institution, and damaging the Military Institute of Communications building, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. In a video, he said people found themselves under the rubble of the Institute of Communications building. Many were saved, but dozens have been killed and over two hundred others were injured in the attack. Zelenskiy ordered a full investigation. Moscow has intensified its missile and drone attacks on Ukraine two-and-a-half years into the full-scale war. Ukraine was pummeled with the heaviest bombardment to date last week. While on Monday ballistic and cruise missiles targeted Kyiv. Ukraine has fought back, launching more than 158 drones at Russia at the weekend, damaging an oil refinery near Moscow and a power station. Zelenskiy repeated his calls for more Western air defenses and urged allies to allow their long-range weapons to be used for strikes deeper into Russian territory. Kyiv's troops have mounted their first large-scale cross-border assault into Russia's Kursk region, for which Moscow has vowed to retaliate. Russia did not immediately comment on Tuesday's attack.

Dozens are dead and more are still missing after two ballistic missiles hit the Poltava Military Communications Institute, officials said.

Russia launched a drone attack targeting Ukraine's Kyiv and the foreign minister there said some of the missiles fired were supplied by North Korea. CBS News senior foreign correspondent Holly Williams reports.

Russia’s defense ministry said that its air defenses had intercepted or shot down more than 150 drones in 15 regions.
