History of the Vanderbilt Museum William K. Vanderbilt II – known to family and friends as Willie K. – loved the oceans and the natural world. In his seagoing global travels, he collected fish and other marine life, birds, invertebrates and cultural artifacts for the personal museum he planned to build on his Long Island estate.
The Museum and Planetarium will be open Fridays from 12 pm - 5- pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am - 5 pm. The Planetarium also offers shows on Fridays and Saturdays at 7, 8, and 9 pm. Museum and Estate grounds close at 5:00 pm. Last admissions at 4:30 pm. Sun. 11:00 am – 5:00 pm.
