St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church is part of the Metropolis of San Francisco, a metropolis of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, and an eparchy of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. Our Church is called the "Greek Church" because Greek was the first language of the ancient Christian Church from which our Faith was transmitted.
Metropolitan Theophilus of the “Greek-Catholic-Russian-Orthodox-Church” (also called the Metropolia) sent V. Rev. Makary Baranoff, who was from Alaska, to organize a Russian Orthodox parish in San Diego.
