He was the son of the future king Francis I and the Spanish infanta María Isabel, a member of the branch of the house of Bourbon that had ruled Naples and Sicily from 1734.
After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the title of king of Two Sicilies was adopted by Ferdinand IV of Naples in 1816. [3] Under Ferdinand's rule, the Kingdom of Naples and the Kingdom of Sicily were unified.
