Oct 4, 2019 · Ball State University is named in honor of the five Ball brothers who founded the institution in 1918: Lucius, William, Edmund, Frank, and George. The brothers were industrialists and philanthropists who started what eventually became the Ball Corporation, the manufacturer of the Ball canning jar, among other glass and canning products.
