Nov 4, 2014 · On 23rd January 1902, 210 men from the 5th Infantry regiment tried to find a route across the Hakkoda mountains. Due to bad weather 199 men laid down their life trying to assent this great mountain. There are 2 movies dedicated on this incident, which also got chronicled in a novel called Death March on Mt Hakkoda.
The fame of Lake Towada seems to overshadow Hakkoda. But if I get to choose my favorite autumn trip to date, this is it. Entire mountains covered in red foliage?
