Oct 22, 2019 · Banjiro “Banji” Uemura, the founder and former chairman of Tohokushinsha, passed away peacefully in Tokyo on Tuesday, October 15, with his family present. He was 90 years old. He retired as TFC chairman and CEO in 2010 and passed the mantle on to his son Tetsu.
Banjiro Uemura founded TFC in Tokyo as a dub house for foreign TV programs. 1962. Begins distribution of foreign movies and TV dramas. 1964. Launches TV commercial production business. 1966. Distributes the hit British TV series “Thunderbirds” in Japan with sensational results. 1972. Acquires National Azabu Supermarket to tap into retailing market.
