Wong Liu Tsong (January 3, 1905 – February 3, 1961), known professionally as Anna May Wong, was an American actress, considered the first Chinese American film star in Hollywood, [1] as well as the first Chinese American actress to gain international recognition. [2]
Anna May Wong was an American actress who overcame discrimination and racism to become one of the first Asian Americans to have a successful film career in Hollywood. She appeared in more than 60 movies and also acted on television and on the stage. She was born Wong Liu Tsong in the Chinatown area.
Anna May Wong died of a massive heart attack on February 3, 1961, in Santa Monica, CA, after a long struggle against Laennec's cirrhosis, a disease of the liver. She was 56 years old. Her fame lives on, four decades after her death.
