Gold Brook Covered Bridge, also known as Stowe Hollow Bridge or Emily's Bridge, is a small wooden covered bridge in the town of Stowe, Lamoille County, Vermont, carrying Covered Bridge Road over Gold Brook.
This covered bridge is a one way bridge in a gorgeous setting and I got some of my best covered bridge photos here with great fall colors. There are interesting local stories on the nearby placard about Emily, and a possible haunting.

The Gold Brook or Emily's Bridge is the only covered bridge in Vermont that appears to have ties to the supernatural realm. Many people claim to have experienced strange events at the bridge. Some even believe it is haunted.
May 24, 2024 · The Gold Brook Covered Bridge is unique in Vermont, being the only bridge supported by timber Howe trusses which carries a public highway in the state. ( One other bridge of the same truss type still stands in Vermont near East Shoreham, but it was built for railroad use.)
Aug 16, 2023 · Gold Brook Covered Bridge. Also known as Emily’s Bridge, this bridge was built in 1844 and is the oldest Howe Truss bridge in Vermont. The bridge is famously said to be haunted by Emily’s ghost with reported sightings of ghostly apparitions under the moonlit sky.
Built in 1844, Emily’s Bridge in Stowe Vermont was just 50 feet long over Gold Brook and was covered with dark wood that the elements haven’t been merciful on ever since. But around the time the bridge was built that dark wood was still new, smelling of fresh pine, and creaked every time a horse-drawn wagon crossed it.

Bridges. Covered bridges were a 19th century “wonder”! Between the 1840’s and the 1870’s at least ten covered bridges were constructed in Stowe. One of the earliest, Gold Brook Bridge, was designed and built by J. W Smith of Moscow, c. 1840 He used the recently made popular the Howe Truss system.
