This huge tree is designated a Historic Tree of Texas and is featured in the book "Living Witness." From San Saba High School, go north, follow 9th St. for 1/4 mile, turn left onto China Creek Road. Stay on China Creek for about 1 mile to the tree. You'll know it when you see it.

Deep in the heart of Texas, quite near the state's geographical center, stands a beautiful live oak about which many interesting legends have arisen. If asked, San Saba romantics may refer to the tree as the “Matrimonial Altar,” the “Marriage Oak,” the “Matrimonial Oak,” or the “Wedding Oak.”

Often referred to as the “ Marriage Oak,” “Matrimonial Alter,” “Matrimonial Oak ,” but officially known as the “ Wedding Oak .” This tree is famously known for having strong magical powers. It’s also one of the oldest trees in the state.
