The Old Globe is a professional theatre company located in Balboa Park in San Diego, California. It produces about 15 plays and musicals annually in summer and winter seasons. Plays are performed in three separate theatres in the complex, which is collectively called the Simon Edison Centre for the Performing Arts:
The Tony Award-winning Old Globe is one of the country’s leading professional regional theatres and has stood as San Diego’s flagship arts institution for over 80 years.
Modeled after Shakespeare’s Old Globe in London, the Old Globe Theatre was built in 1935 for the presentation of abridged versions of Shakespeare’s plays as part of the California Pacific International Exposition.
The Old Globe is located in Balboa Park, San Diego’s cultural treasure. Our theatres are located off of El Prado between the San Diego Museum of Art and the Museum of Us. Balboa Park can be accessed from most major freeways via Park Boulevard or the Cabrillo Bridge off of 6 th and Laurel Avenue.
