   • This is the 3rd Battleship South Dakota, with this one having been used in the Pacific in WWII. It was commissioned in 1942 and saw action in many of the major battles of the Pacific including Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal. The Memorial is open May 1 until September 30 from 9:30 until 5:30 but the grounds are open all year long.

   Where is the Sioux Falls Memorial?

   • This Memorial is located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on a main street so it’s hard to miss. The outside of the Memorial is arranged in the shape of the 680 foot ship. I have posted a photo of the Memorial from the brochure with a photo taken from above that shows the shape of the ship. There are parts of the ship placed on the grassy area.

   Free, friendly and comprehensive memorial to the USS South Dakota - the most decorated battleship in WWII. Lots of memorabilia from the ship in the small museum (plus a piece of wreckage from the USS Arizona). Outside are some of the guns and the anchor, laid out as if the ship was in the ground.
