The Valley of Decision is a 1945 American drama film directed by Tay Garnett, adapted by Sonya Levien and John Meehan from Marcia Davenport's 1942 novel of the same name. Set in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the 1870s, it stars Greer Garson and Gregory Peck.

Walter Strohm. Herbert Stothart. Marcia Davenport. John Meehan. Sonya Levien. Mary Rafferty comes from a poor family of steel mill workers in 19th Century Pittsburgh. Her family objects when she goes to work as a maid for the wealthy Scott family which controls the mill.
The film, The Valley of Decision, was based on a popular novel by Marcia Davenport, an author best remembered now for her excellent 1932 biography of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Peck plays Paul Scott, the son of a steel mill owner (Donald Crisp) who falls in love with the family's Irish maid, Mary (Greer Garson).
