It's simply too generic at heart to justify director Schwentke's delirious, sidewinding, arcing, snap-zooming and whip-panning anti-gravity camerawork.

R.I.P.D. is the latest big-bucks Hollywood blockbuster to attempt to entertain audiences by throwing constant, large-scale, mindless CGI at them. It needs the CGI to get through, because story-wise it's a real mess.
