May 9, 2024 · Jeb Stuart (born Feb. 6, 1833, Patrick county, Va., U.S.—died May 12, 1864, Yellow Tavern, near Richmond, Va.) was a Confederate cavalry officer whose reports of enemy troop movements were of particular value to the Southern command during the American Civil War (1861–65).
As his defeated men scattered to the four winds after Yellow Tavern, J.E.B. Stuart was carried by ambulance to the Richmond home of his brother-in-law, Dr. Charles Brewer, on Grace Street. Back at Spotsylvania Court House, Robert E. Lee received a telegram that rendered him speechless.
