After a period of cooperation with the Saxon court, the Czartoryskis broke with their old friend Brühl and turned to Russia. Their intermediary was their nephew Stanisław August Poniatowski, whom they sent, as Saxon minister, to the Russian court in the suite of the English minister Sir Charles Hanbury Williams in 1755.
