Virgil Walter Earp (July 18, 1843 – October 19, 1905) was an American lawman. He was both deputy U.S. Marshal and City Marshal of Tombstone, Arizona, when he led his younger brothers Wyatt and Morgan, and Doc Holliday, in a confrontation with outlaw Cowboys at the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral on October 26, 1881.

Virgil Earp died in1905. Though his younger brother remains more famous, Virgil led an exciting and fulfilling life. His services as a soldier and peace officer, plus his successful homesteading venture, ensure that his place in history will be forever granted.
On Oct. 13, 1895, The Arizona Journal Miner reported in a welcoming article that Virgil Earp relocated to Prescott, this time from Cripple Creek, Colorado. It recalled some of his and his brothers past exploits in Prescott and Tombstone and their ridding these communities of outlaws.
