Butler W. Lampson FRS (born December 23, 1943) is an American computer scientist best known for his contributions to the development and implementation of distributed personal computing.

Butler Lampson is a retired technical fellow at Microsoft Corp. and an adjunct professor of computer science and electrical engineering at MIT. He was on the faculty at Berkeley and then at the Computer Science Laboratory at Xerox PARC and at Digital’s Systems Research Center.
