Fetch! is a reality-based game show where young contestants (ages 10–14) take on various challenges to gain points. During these challenges, they must complete various tasks assigned to them ahead of time and on the fly by Ruff and surrogates, depending on the situation.

Ruff Ruffman is a bespectacled orange dog who is the proud host of the titular series, FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman. He is also the main protagonist of the show.
Ruff is known to have a lot of relatives, such as his mother and father (Wink and Dinah Ruffman). Ruff also has a criminal twin brother named Scruff, and plus other family members. It is also been confirmed that the Ruffman family name is put down for its bad performance in luging.
Ruff has many relatives and ancestors, all with a physical appearance similar to his own (except his mother).
The year of his birth is unclear but he may have been born in the year 1971, in season 5 episode 18, he asks the fetchers to look at magazines for clues of his parent's whereabouts. Although he says specifically "Don't show anybody the year on that box! I don't give out my age." if you look at the boxes above it the numbers are listed down from early 199 to late 1993, early 1993, late 1992 to the one that's covered from view that two of the Fetchers open, which is early 1992 to late 1991.
Ruff was raised by his parents, Wink and Dinah. He grew up with Scruff and had a rivalry with him. He possibly lived with Roxy as well since he was a puppy.
Ruff is cheerful, optimistic, and very sensitive in both positive and negative ways. He is also kind and caring to the Fetchers, going out of their way to ensure that everyone has a good time when he's around. •Along with the rest of the Ruffman family, His family name, ”Ruffman”, could possibly be a pun on the common sound that dogs make, (“Ruff Ruff”), which makes perfect sense due to the fact that Ruff is a dog.
•Ruff is the only Ruffman whose first name is an alternative to his last name (“Ruff Ruffman”).
•Ruff and Scruff are twin brothers, but their personalities are very different. Ruff is good, cheerful, optimistic and very sensitive. Scruff, on the other hand, is very pessimistic and usually doesn't care about anyone's (but his) feelings (it's very rare that he is ever shown happy).
