Kung Fu: The Legend Continues · Season 1 starring David Carradine, Chris Potter, Kim Chan. Kwai Chang Caine was a priest at a Shaolin temple, where his son Peter also lived and studied. The temple was destroyed and father and son each thought the other had perished in the fire.
Caine and Peter go back in time to the Shaolin Temple and meet their ancestor Kwai Chang. And they teach him and the other monks kung fu to defend themselves when they're about to be attacked.
