Downton Abbey is a British period drama television series created by Julian Fellowes and co-produced by Carnival Films and Masterpiece. It first aired on ITV in the United Kingdom on 26 September 2010 and on PBS in the United States on 9 January 2011, as part of the Masterpiece Classic anthology.
Gwen's ambitions to leave service and become a secretary are discouraged, Bates takes painful steps to overcome his limp, and a dashing Turkish diplomat visiting Downton seems to work his charms on everyone - especially Mary.

Matthew Crawley, a young solicitor and the new heir, arrives at Downton Abbey with his mother, Isobel. They, the other Crawleys, and the servants all have difficulty adjusting to differences in class and culture whilst facing some resentment from certain family members and staff.
